The water enters the filter through the intake bulkhead fitting. It passes through the Integral Top Diffuser which allows the water to disburse evenly over the sand bed inside the tank. As the water passes down through the sand bed, particulate and debris in the water is trapped between the grains of sand. The filtered water is then returned to the pool through the return bulkhead. The air discharges built into the filter tank removes air pockets from the top of the filter tank. The manual air relief valve offers a way to manually remove an air pocket in the filter.
Most sand filters will remove particulate and debris down to a size of about 40 microns.
